What an irony, on Autism awareness day, I was diagnosed as Autistic.
And a couple of months ago as ADHD.
Which makes me a sparkly, messy, complicated: Audhd ![]()
So I am ‘one of those late diagnosed’ women adding to the numbers of neurodivergent people ![]()

Would I recommend you doing the assessments if you have done some research and have more than just a suspicion?
YES because:
1. It has health ramifications and co-morbidities – so a critical part of any full diagnosis of autoimmune / chronic health conditions
2. As a woman, there are increased hormonal challenges especially teenage, postnatally and around menopause
3. There are massive relationship issues & vulnerabilities
4. If you have eating issues or addictions, it can be part of the cause
5. To see yourself clearly
6. And work out how to fit into this neurotypical world without damaging yourself (more).
7. You might need ADHD Meds / support to handle your executive functioning issues with ADHD
8. If you are experiencing Autistic / Adhd / Audhd Burnout, it is NOT the same as career burnout, so you need to know how to tackle it
9. Autism doesn’t have meds as such, but there can be help with anxiety meds
10. Both come with trauma, from all the people who told you that you were wrong in how you literally did EVERYTHING
Honestly, I just needed someone to officially tell me that there as a reason WHY.
And that it was OK.
And that going forwards, I don’t have to do the things that were so difficult for me that led to me having Autistic Burnout.

What’s The Assessment Process Like?
Not as slow as I thought, the delays were more caused by me, than them – but I was lucky that my area hadn’t stopped doing Right To Choose Assessments.
I found the waits useful because filling in the forms was incredibly hard – ADHD took me 2 months, Autism took 4 months – it made me look honestly at how hard every day things are for me, relationships in particular.
I chose ‘Dr J & Associates’ and as an older Audhd woman, I would really recommend them (as at 2026 – things change). The actual assessments were very therapeutic & validating.
It is not an easy thing to have these assessments – don’t let the media make you think it is. If I wasn’t having some extreme struggles, I would not have done it.
But I am very glad I did.
And ‘how autistic am I?’, when I asked the assessor if he thought I was autistic he laughed and said ‘Oh Lisa, you are soooooooooo Autistic’ ![]()
